January News


On January 18th report cards will be available online on ProgressBook. Please make sure you are able to log in to view your child’s report card.

Reminders

We began our author study of author Chris Van Allsburg. All students have chosen 3 books to use throughout our author study activities. All students will bring home a choice board of activities on Friday and they will need to choose 2 activities. Students will have opportunities to work on these choice activities at school, however, they will also need to do some work at home.  Please take the opportunity to look at these activities with your child over the weekend and have them return their choice board with their choices on Monday.

Learning Focus

Math
We have begun Unit 3 Multi-Step Word Problems using the 4 operations. We are going to be starting a Hot Cocoa Bar project based learning activity that will incorporate many math skills in one project.
Social Studies
We will have our Economics Unit assessment on Friday, January 18. Students
have been given a study guide for the test and have been practicing
throughout the week.
ELA
We have begun out Book Study Digital Scrapbook. Students will be given their
choice board to choose 2 additional activities to showcase their knowledge.
We will work on a biography writing piece to learn more about the life of the
author. Students will be working on a variety of story elements through mentor
texts and Greek and Roman myths. This practice will also help them as they
complete their digital scrapbook.

January News

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday break. I am excited to begin the new year with some activities that will help us continue to develop teamwork skills and the ability to demonstrate kindness to others.

Reminders

We are beginning an author study of author Chris Van Allsburg. As we progress through this unit there may be some activities the students will need to work on at home. When we get to this part of the project I will provide guidance and written directions to make any work that is done at home easily understood.

Learning Focus

Math
We have finished Unit 2 and will review for the Unit Assessment on January 4. We will then begin Unit 3 Multi-Step Word Problems using the 4 operations.
Social Studies
We are going to be finishing our Economics unit by completing two in class projects dealing with budgeting and creating a business plan. After completing our Economics unit we will move on to a Science unit about Rocks and Minerals.
ELA
Our next unit will be an author study of Chris Van Allsburg. We will begin our study with a Book Tasting that will allow the students to experience many of his books. This Book Tasting will help the students determine the 3 books they will utilize to complete their Book Study Digital Scrapbook. Students will also choose 2 additional activities to showcase their knowledge. We will work on a biography writing piece to learn more about the life of the author.
