Happy Valentine's Day!

The Valentine's Day party will be tomorrow at the end of the day.  All children made bags to collect their Valentine cards and treats in. If your child is planning on bringing Valentine's to school, as a reminder, please make sure that they bring in one for each child, we want to make sure that no one gets left out.

Math-We finished up Chapter 8: Multiplication and Division Patterns with our summative test on Monday. We will be moving on to Chapter 9 Properties and Equations.  Please make sure your child is continuing to practice their Math facts at home, they are trying to earn all of the toppings for their banana split so that we can celebrate with a banana split party. This week we will be having our timed test on X6 facts.

Science-On Friday we will be having our test on Matter. Students brought home a vocabulary review sheet to begin studying. We did a review game on Friday to determine what each student needed to spend a little extra time studying, those terms were highlighted on their vocabulary review sheet. Please review a little bit each night so that they are prepared for the test on Friday. We will begin our Social Studies unit of Economics next.

ELA-We have been working on a variety of strategies using informational text. Currently we are working on comparing and contrasting information from a text. Students are identifying ideas or information within a text that is the same and different. Next we will be using informational text to practice identifying the cause and effect.

Writing-The students just completed a multi-paragraph writing stating their opinion about the dog they feel should win the Dog Hero of the Year Award. The students wrote one paragraph stating their opinion and a second paragraph stating the opposing point of view. We will be working on a biography project next. On Friday students picked the books for the person they will be learning about for their biography project. While they read their biography book they have a note taking guide to complete along with it which will help them when they are ready to move on to the pieces that will be a part of their biography project. All writing of the biography project will be done at school. If students choose to read their biography book at home they should be adding notes to their note taking guide and they can use those minutes on their reading log.

At school we are reviewing the rules and expectations in the classroom and around the school building. Mrs. Chambers stopped in this week to review the school wide expectations at Chippewa School. We also are reviewing classroom rules and expectations, this seems to be the time of year when students begin to forget what is expected of them at school so we like to provide them with a little reminder. Please take a few moments at home to review your expectations for your child's behavior at school and reinforce the need for them to follow the building and classroom rules and expectations.
